SIMON
“What the hell, Snow?” Baz bursts in our bedroom door without knocking. I don’t look up from my phone.
“I’m talking to you, Snow. Please don’t ignore me when I’m talking to you” He says
“What?” I say, throwing my phone on the bed
“You can’t do that!” He half yelles “Act up like this”
“Who said I was acting up?” I ask. “Maybe that’s just me. Who I am”
“Cut this shit off, Snow. You never fight with Bunce. Except that’s the only thing you’re doing. Is this about Shepard?” He asks
“What about him?”
“I don’t know. I’m not the one ignoring and fighting with everybody ever since he moved in here” He says with a snobbish voice, but I could see he was worried.
“It’s just.. I don’t know. She doesn’t spend as much time with me as she used to. He’s just, here. All the time. It just.. doesn’t feel like it used to be around here before he moved” I say, trying as hard as I can not to sound too jealous or whiny.
“Okay.” He says. “You want me to go get her in here?”
“No”
“You want me to go talk to her myself?”
“No”
He sits on the bed next to me and sighs softly. He comes closer and hugs me, his hands on my back. His hands are cold and nice, relaxing somehow.
“Fine, go get her.” I say after a while. “I’ll talk to her” I say with a faint smile on my face
“Oh no, she went out” He says. “I was just coming to check in on you” He laughs and kisses me softly on my lips.
Then slowly down my neck. He starts unbuttoning my shirt, his hands gentle and strong at the same time. We kiss again, and just when I’m about to take off his shirt, too, we hear the front door slams, and then something that sounds like a quiet sob. I look at Baz with a confused look and lift my shirt from the floor, where Baz threw it just a few minutes ago, put it on and walk in the living room, where I see Penny sitting on the sofa, sobbing heavily. “What happened?” I ask, worried and confused. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?”
She looks up and stares into the air for a few seconds, and then whispers quietly: “I broke up with Shepard”
PENNY
“Why would you do that?” Baz asked, with a surprised look on his face.
Simon just stared at me, his mouth open wide. “What?” I ask him, wiping the tears from my eyes.
“I never wanted you to do that” He says quietly.
“I know.” I say. I do know. It’s just that, in the past two weeks that Shepard has been in here, I saw Simon fading slowly, becoming the same shadow he was before we went to the trip to America.
Baz clears his throat nervously. “I’m going to hunt. I’ll be back in an our, I’ll get us something to eat”. He takes his wallet, and when he passes next to me, he puts his hand on my shoulder. Just for a second. Then he leaves.
“Penny, I’m..” Simon begins to say, but I interrupt him before he can finish the sentence
“I don’t want to talk about it. I broke up with him. What ever. Not a big dill.”
“Penny” He says, looking at me. I look away. “Penny, talk to me” He says. Again.
“No. I’m sorry. I love you, and I did break up from him for you, but I’m not ready to talk to you, especially not about that.” I sob and turn away from him. He touches my shoulder, and I shrink. I get up. “I’m sorry. I just can’t be here right now” I walk out the door, and go down the stairs.
